Okay, so I usually like to give Aunt Em about a week's worth of notice before I take time off. I'm going to a play on Thursday, so I let her know about it a few weeks ago. I'm going to Vegas in June, and she's already trying to work something out with another babysitter.
So when I get sick, I really don't feel comfortable just picking up the phone and telling her I can't work, with only a few hours of wiggle room for her to find something, or someone, else.
I was sick today, the first time since starting this gig, and it sucked. I can't breathe through my nose, I'm dizzy and congested, I have a headache, and I'm achy and tired; thanks in large part to Tin Man, who had this cold about a week ago, and refuses to wash her freaking hands. I had to drive to Dorothy's school, pick her up, drive her back to my house, and play with her, all while sick as a dog. At one point, I even felt like throwing up.
Luckily for me, Dorothy is very understanding about being sick, and she didn't make me do much aside from helping her dress up some Barbie dolls and play with some legos. Then Tin Man came downstairs after finishing her homework and took over. She may be a germ magnet with little to no reguard for how NOT to spread germs, but she certainly helps out when I need her most.
*blows nose*
And unfortunately for me, this isn't just a 24 hour thing. When Tin Man and Scarecrow had it, it lasted for a few WEEKS. Which means that I'll probably be sick when Scarecrow and I go to Legally Blonde on Thursday.
Yay.
